Rob talks about about Bel Ami with Total Film

Robert Pattinson admits that Bel Ami is still in editing because studio honchos are worried about alienating audiences used to his goody-two-shoes persona in the Twilight franchise.

RPattz plays the titular Bel Ami in an adaptation of Maupassant's classic novel about a 19th century womanising, social-climbing journalist who sleeps his way round Paris.

Filming in the UK and Budapest opposite leading ladies Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristen Scott Thomas wrapped in spring 2010 and was originally slated for a Christmas release. It currently has no confirmed opening date.

"We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a shit who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it," Pattinson tells TF exclusively.

"Everyone’s worried that everyone’s going to be thinking, ‘Oh I want him to be nice, he’s got to be nice to all the ladies’."

Bel Ami, though, is an unrepentant cad. "I know," laughs the Water For Elephants star, "But that was fun!"

But I want him in Bel ami. I don't mind the stupid be-nice-thing. The character is not nice - why would be him nice in that?

ITA with you twmmy, in this day and age I think audiences are so much more intelligent to know that this is just a character from a book written over 100 years ago. Don't water it down to please everyone, it won't work and you will only have an epic failure by trying to please everyone. Even if it does not do well at the box-office, I am certain DVD and other sales from the film will be successful.

WTF did they use Rob in the film for being they knew he played a sleezy guy in the movie if they thought there would be any possibility of ppl getting upset that he isn't being a nice guy. How dumbass is that!!! Robs real fans want to see him play different kinds of characters because we have faith in him that he can pull them all off very well. I don't think there could be very many ppl that would actually get upset with him playing a gigalo. Especially in these old time films that happened a lot in that time period. They better release this film or there is going to be a lot of shizz hitting the fan.
